Main commercial street in the Insel

Around 1900 Sedanstrasse developed into the most important commercial and shopping street of Schöneberger Insel. Trade and commerce settled here. Almost every house accommodated a shop or small business.

At No. 8 (now Leberstrasse 16), for example, there was a cigar factory, right next to a beer wholesaler (Leberstrasse 18), and at Sedanstrasse 11 (Leberstrasse 22) a bakery. In Sedanstrasse 19/20 (Leberstrasse 36/38) there was a cigar shop and a leather workshop.

Restaurants, pubs and shops were closely bunched together, in part because of the servicemen who lived in the Schöneberger Insel or were stationed there.
